Description:
The SCSC Writing Contest gives students a chance to express themselves by writing fiction, non-fiction or poetry. This program was established to encourage the love of language and writing for all students and as a way to recognize the talented young writers in south central Minnesota. SCSC is partnering with Minnesota State University, Mankato on this program. Students in grades K-12 attending public, private or homeschools are eligible to enter. Up to three pieces per category and submission in multiple categories are welcome.

Now that you have learned what Structured Teaching is and can identify the three basic elements of Structured Teaching we want to dive deeper into building our skills to apply the elements to our classrooms. Structured Teaching 2.0 will refresh on the basics, learn how to plan for the structure, create a plan for your classroom and plan for implementation. This is really about the metacognition of structured teaching. It is "thinking" structure in all aspects of the educational environment. Goals: -Participants will begin to design a plan to implement the elements of structured teaching. -Participants will begin to learn to "think" structure as he/she develops or fine-tunes programming, embeds other methods of teaching, implements strategies/or interventions. ***Lunch is included***

***Must previously have take Structured Teaching 1.0 or Structured Teaching 2.0*** How to create independent work for students through the use of structured tasks. This session will review the rules of a structured task. We will review the categories of tasks and learn how to organize tasks. We will design tasks to meet the elements of structure teaching. These tasks will minimize or eliminate the need for prompting from staff. We will develop tasks that speak to the student and how his/her autism impacts him/her. We will evaluate tasks and determine if the task meets the expectations of structure and we will create tasks for our programs. Goals: Participants will be able to identify if a task meets the expectations of Structured Teaching Participants will create tasks to meet the elements. ***Lunch and materials is included***

The Reading Academy offers participants an opportunity to read from one of several lists of books (see link below) and comment (2-3 sentences) online about each book. Then participants come together on June 21 and share ideas and comments about their readings. In the afternoon there is instruction on Increasing Reading Motivation. Each participant receives 25 Clock Hour Units. Lunch is on your own.

As part of the 125 clock hour requirement for license renewal, the Minnesota Legislature, by statute, requires ALL teachers to show evidence in the following six areas to renew a license. These sessions are offered in one day and the times and areas are: 1) Scientifically Based Reading 8-9 a.m. 2) Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness 9-10 a.m. 3) Suicide Prevention 10-11 a.m. 4) Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports 11 a.m.-12 p.m. 5) English Language Learners 1-2 p.m. 6) Cultural Competency 2-3 p.m. Note: Technology and Accommodations/Modifications are no longer required sessions. Participants may register for all six areas for $350 choose individual sessions for $60. Each session will have a set of materials for further study. Lunch is on your own.

In this hands-on workshop we'll draw upon the frameworks of Arts Lit, a free literacy resource from Brown University, to explore ways of entering, comprehending, and embodying different kinds of texts. This work is geared for K-12 educators in theater, dance, English, social studies, and others interested in using the tools of theater and dance to reveal layers of meaning, deepen comprehension, and facilitate community building. Description:
The Southern Regional Implementation Project (SRIP) if offering a "New to PBIS" training. This training is for staff members who may not have had the opportunity to go through the MN PBIS cohort training with their school team. Any school staff members working at schools that previously completed cohort training are welcome to attend. This one day training will not replace the 9 days of cohort training, but we hope it will enlighten participants on the basic framework and components of PBIS.
