This community is for administrators and education leaders who are actively working with student-centered learning initiatives including personalized learning, problem-based learning, anytime anywhere learning, student-owned learning and competency-based learning.
Members of this community applied for and received Innovation Zone Status from MDE in 2018.
Vision 2020 Innovation Zone
Vision 2020 is an official MDE recognized Education Innovation Zone made up of nine public school entities including the Sleepy Eye, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, St James, Tri-City United, St Peter, Waseca,Fairmont, Granada Huntley East Chain and the South Central Service Cooperative.
The Vision 2020 Goals are to:
- Increase opportunities for students to pursue their passions and interests in learning.
- Build the capacity throughout Innovation Zone to develop and implement student-centered learning environments.
- Allow students to meet core grade level subject and/or graduation requirements while pursuing strengths and/or areas of interest.
- Improve equitable access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming, industry certification and college credit in all participating schools.
The two major initiatives associated with this innovation zone to date are capacity building to support personalized learning using Blended Professional Development and Micro-Credentials and developing shared CTE Pathways and College in the Schools programming.
