Minnesota Association of School Administrators Selects Dr. Matt Hillmann as Next Executive Director

South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) is pleased to recognize Dr. Matt Hillmann on his selection as the next Executive Director of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA), effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Hillmann will succeed Dr. Deb Henton, who will retire on June 30 after six years of distinguished leadership.

Dr. Hillmann currently serves as Superintendent of Northfield Public Schools and brings more than 30 years of experience in public education to his new role. His career includes service as a teacher, principal, and central office leader overseeing human resources, finance, operations, technology, and communications. This breadth of experience—across districts of varying sizes and contexts—positions him well to support and advocate for school leaders statewide.

An active MASA member, Dr. Hillmann has contributed significantly to the association through his service as MASA President, participation on the Board of Directors, and involvement in key legislative and equity-focused committees. He has also engaged deeply in MASA’s professional learning system, including the Great Start Cohort for New Superintendents and Administrators, Aspiring Superintendents Academy, and the Advanced Leadership Academy.

MASA leadership shared that Dr. Hillmann’s strong commitment to Minnesota public schools, his collaborative leadership style, and his extensive service to the association make him exceptionally well suited for this statewide position. His selection also reflects a continued investment in supporting and developing educational leaders across Minnesota.

Recognized as Minnesota Superintendent of the Year in 2023 and a finalist for the AASA National Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Hillmann is widely known for his leadership, communication, and commitment to equity. He has also contributed to the development of future school leaders through mentoring and university teaching.

Dr. Hillmann earned his doctorate in educational leadership, specialist degree in educational administration, and master’s degree in education technology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University (NY).

SCSC congratulates Dr. Matt Hillmann on this significant statewide appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership in supporting Minnesota’s school administrators and public education system.
