The Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Community of Practice, hosted by South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC), supports educators across Minnesota Low Incidence Regions 9 and 10 who serve students with disabilities that impact physical development. This collaborative network brings together professionals committed to improving access, understanding, and instructional practices in adaptive physical education.
What is Developmental Adapted Physical Education?
Developmental Adapted Physical Education is specially designed physical education instruction and services provided to students with disabilities, ages 3 through 21, who have substantial delays or disorders in physical development. DAPE instruction may focus on:
- Physical fitness and endurance
- Motor fitness and coordination
- Fundamental motor skills and movement patterns
- Aquatics, dance, individual and group games, and sports skills
Students with temporary injuries, short-term medical conditions, or other non-disability-related needs are supported within general physical education and do not qualify for DAPE services.
