Service Cooperatives

Delivering the highest quality programs and services through collaborative endeavors.

->

Service Cooperatives were established in 1976 by Minnesota Statute as regional service agencies to enhance the work of their members (public, charter and non-public schools; non-profit organizations; cities, counties, and other governmental agencies).

Although service cooperatives serve as a governmental unit of the State of Minnesota, they receive no state funding nor have local tax authority.  SCSC may be viewed as a service extension of both the participating members and the representative state agencies. Financial support is derived from facilitation of programs and services and from membership dues.

The Minnesota Service Cooperatives (MSC) is a Joint Powers organization comprised of nine educational service agencies. MSC performs planning on a regional basis and assists in meeting specific needs of clients in participating governmental units which could be better provided by a service cooperative than by members themselves. The nine educational service agencies are geographically distributed across the state and serve members in their respective areas. Each agency has a unique understanding of the strengths and needs of their members and use these insights to positively impact and improve outcomes.
