DESCRIPTION
South Central Service Cooperative has been facilitating shared programs between school districts across south central Minnesota since 1976. We believe shared services are most effective when services are implemented at a regional level rather than a “one size fits all approach” which may occur when mandates are managed at the state and federal levels. Sharing services regionally creates economies of scale and maintains a consistency in process that positively impacts local school districts.
Regional shared service programs allows individual school districts to retain the benefits of decentralized control of the direct instruction of students while working with groups of school districts to share services in areas that are not central to each district’s core educational mission.
Ed Waltman, recently retired Mankato Area Public Schools’ superintendent of schools, will serve as the SCSC Shared Services Consultant. Ed brings thirty seven years of experience as a superintendent and as director of business affairs to our organization. Ed will work with area school districts to find additional ways to manage their costs by encouraging and facilitating increased shared services between school districts in south central Minnesota.
In addition, South Central Service Cooperative is available to provide advisory services to individual school districts in the following areas:
- business services including financial planning and budget processes
- insurance programs and risk management
- bond and operating referendum planning
- superintendent and business manager mentoring
- superintendent search services
- legal services
- shared services studies
